We all know that running and walking are really social activities. At DC Front Runners, our members love to socialize! In addition to club runs and walks, we sponsor a number of special member events, including monthly happy hours, our annual Spring Fling Weekend (a special weekend of social and running events), the popular Anniversary and Holiday Parties, and special brunches and events. The focus of our club’s social life is the Saturday fun run and walk, which always ends with an informal gathering at a local restaurant (when its cold) or socializing on the steps of our “home base” at 23rd and P Streets.
The club occasionally hosts a “Welcome Newcomers Fun Run and Walk” inviting interested runners and walkers to try one of our club runs or walks. You’ll have an opportunity to meet our members and ask your questions about our club. However, come to any of our weekly runs/walks if you are unable to attend these events!
On the First Friday of each month, the club holds an informal “happy hour” at a local bar or restaurant. It’s a great opportunity to socialize with new and current members outside of our weekly runs and walks!
We’re also proud to be a part of Washington DC’s greater GLBT and running communities. Over the past 25 years, DC Front Runners has developed an impressive tradition of community service. In the past, the club has sponsored “Pledge Runs” and other events to raise money for GLBT organizations, including Whitman-Walker Clinic and Targeting A Dream. The club has sponsored information booths at the DC Capital Pride, Black Pride and Youth Pride Festivals and our floats have become a popular attraction in the DC Capital Pride Parade.
As members of Team DC, Front Runners typically send large contingents to the International Gay Games and World Outgames to represent our city and participate in running events. And we support our local running community by staffing water stops at local races and serving as a local partner with the National Marathon, 5K Run for Pride and Capitol Hill Classic 10K races.
