Member Weekly E-mail Update Changes

Posted August 21

Effective September 5, the club’s weekly e-mail update will temporarily move to a private Members’ eNews web page. Members will find the latest announcements and details about club special events, happy hours, individual race and walk circuit results, Board matters and other member news on this private site. After the transition, the public “DCFR News” page (this page) will only focus on club announcements (e.g. 5K training program, Welcome Newcomers Run/Walk) of interest to the general public.

In the next weekly e-mail update, members will receive the private website address to bookmark in their browsers. Each week, members will receive a brief e-mail reminder notice and link when the eNews page is updated. In addition, we will continue to send special e-mail notices to members when there is an important club announcement.

If you like to post an announcement on the Members’ eNews web page, please contact newsletter@dcfrontrunners.org.  Members should contact webmaster@dcfrontrunners.org if you do not wish to receive the weekly eNews reminder notice or did not receive the eNews web page address.

After a few months, the Board will evaluate the effectiveness of the temporary website to determine whether it should continue as a private site or return to a separate weekly e-mail service, if a member volunteers to serve as E-mailman.

Many thanks to DCFR member Rich Robinson for serving as the club’s e-mailman for the last 3 1/2 years!

Colonial Half Marathon Weekend - February 23rd thru 25th

Posted February 6

Once again its time for our annual road trip to Williamsburg, VA for the Colonial Half Marathon & 5K.   The race starts at 1pm on Sunday Feb. 25 from the College of William and Mary campus.   More information at
www.tribeclub.com.

We have a block of 10 rooms for Friday and Saturday nights ($49 per night including free breakfast!) at the Howard Johnson Hotel.   This is the same hotel as last year with a new name.   Reserve a room by calling them directly at 757-220-3100.   Be sure to mention that you are with the DC Front Runners to receive this rate.   Sunday checkout is 11:00 am but the hotel offers day use of the room (for an additional charge of $24.50) allowing you to check out at 4pm so you have time to clean up after the race.

The weekend kicks off with our Saturday morning fun run/walk through Colonial Williamsburg and then an afternoon free to explore this colonial era city and its surroundings.   Later that evening we dine at the Kings Arms Tavern but seating is limited to 28 persons.   Reserve your space at dinner by sending a check for $30 made payable to Kevin Lorei, {address removed}.   Deadline for the dinner reservation is Feb. 16th.   Expect dinner costs of $35 to $50 per person including beverage, taxes and tip.   On Sunday morning we breakfast together at a local pancake emporium, followed by registration/packet pickup and the race itself.   If you are not racing, cheer on your teammates as they cross the finish line inside the William and Mary gym.

Even if you are not planning on the Saturday dinner, please e-mail Kevin Lorei, so he can send you the weekend intinerary.   He can also assist with transportation and/or room-sharing. Contact Kevin at {email address removed}.
