Race Directors' Report for Annapolis 10 Mile Run...

The sun had not yet risen as 15 Front Runners made their way to the 29th Annapolis Ten Mile run.   High humidity, a temperature hovering around 90 degrees, and a hilly course did not deter our runners.   Eddie Valentine and Rich Robinson captured second place awards and Michael Glikes, along with Eddie and Rich placed in the top 100 out of 4,300 runners.   Rich hosted the runners, as well as cheerleaders Rich Lewis, Richard Isaacs and David Vecera to a wonderful spread at his home on the bay.   Visit our Race Results page to see all the DCFR results.

Date:  Sunday, September 12, 2004
Time:  4pm - dusk
Place: Rock Creek Park at Picnic Area #6   (Click here for a map of Rock Creek Park)

Team DC is hosting a Field Day Picnic on Sunday, September 12, 2004, from 4pm until dusk.   The event be held in Rock Creek Park at Picnic Area #6 (1st picninc area north of Military Road).   Best of all, the event is FREE!   Among the activities: a traditional cookout with hamburgers, hot dogs, veggie burgers, and all the fixins' and picnic games to see which team really is the most "athletic" out there.   All DC Front Runners and friends and families are welcome and encouraged to attend - we'd like to see a big DCFR turnout and "kick some butt" in the picnic games.

Team DC needs a head count in advance, so please RSVP to Paul Kugelman at coordinator@dcfrontrunners.org.

Note: Beach Drive is closed on Sunday to cars, so you can't drive north from the Dupont area on Beach Drive.   However, you CAN drive on Beach Drive north of Military Road to get to the picnic area (which has parking).   The site is also a short walk from 16th Street and Military Road.

  Membership Renewal  (posted 06/21/04)

The DCFR membership year has ended (5/31/04) and it's time for most members to renew their memberships.   Excepted are those new members who joined in 2004 and whose memberships already run through in May 2005.   There are 3 options for renewing membership:

  • Online Membership Registration using Sign me up SPORTS (accepts new members too)
  • A Printable Membership Form - fill out this form online, print it out and mail it to us with a check.
  • Offline Renewal - receive a form by email or mail, complete and return with a check by mail.
If you do not renew by August 31, 2004, your membership will expire.   You may still renew after that date, but you will not be included in the annual Club Directory, and benefits such as the Weekly Email Update, and others, may be terminated until you renew.

To learn more about the different renewal options visit the "Becoming a DCFR Member" section of our main Membership page.   Or go directly to our new Membership - Join Online page if you'd like to learn about, and register your membership online.

The DCFR Elite team, with top three runners Eddie Valentine, Rich Robinson and Taneen Carvell, came in 2nd place overall. Capitol Fire, with top three runners Lennie Carter, Tony Mick and Blake Rushin, came in fifth overall.   DCFR Rummage Sale at JR's - May 1st   (posted 04/23/04)

On Saturday, May 1, DCFR will sponsor a rummage sale with 50% of the proceeds being donated to Food and Friends.   This will be a chance to bargain hunt a bit and pick up a few items from each other's club-wear collection or some other item that would make our lives complete.   So mark your calendars and clean out your closets!   The sale will be out front of JR's, so we can use the overhang in case of inclement weather.

Please contact Mac Mecarriello at outreach@dcfrontrunners.org or Rich Lewis at if you want to donate items or can help.

5K Circuit Race and DCFR Breakfast - March 27th   (posted 03/12/04)

On Saturday, March 27, Manna Inc. will sponsor its Sixth Annual 5K Home Run at Carter Barron in Rock Creek Park.   Registration for the race is $25 and it comes with a long-sleeve T-shirt.   Race check is at 8:30 at Fitzgerald Tennis Center (16th & Colorado, parking is plentiful); race starts at 9:30.   This race is on the DCFR circuit.  Register at www.mannadc.org.

Manna is a great cause, producing more affordable housing than anyone else in Washington.   DCFRers Henry Louie and Jim Gray live about a mile north of the finish line at 1630 Underwood Street, NW and they want to encourage DCFR folks to participate.   All DC Frontrunners that register for the Home Run are invited to breakfast at Jim & Henry's after the run.   The food will be provided (do not bring anything).   If you want to run to Jim & Henry's from the Home Run, head north on 16th and turn left at Underwood and go one block to the dead end to Jim & Henry's.

If you would like to join us for this DCFR breakfast, first, register for the Home Run and second, send an RSVP e-mail to Jim Gray {email address removed} by March 24 so that Jim and Henry will know to expect you for breakfast on the 27th.
