Bet You Didn’t Know: I worked as a zookeeper/aquarist for ten years at the Amazonia exhibit at the National Zoological Park. I also worked on a research boat for the Smithsonian that traveled from DC to Mayaguana Island in the Bahamas to collect fish, corals, and more for a coral reef exhibit in the Natural History Museum.

Meet Blake Rushin

Why did you join the DC Front Runners?

After coming out, I wanted to meet people in the LGBTQ community. After going to a DCFR women’s brunch and learning more about the club, I thought Front Runners seemed like a good place to go.

Why is the DC Front Runners important to you?

I have met most of my closest friends through DCFR. It has led to many volunteer opportunities in the DC LGBTQ sports community. The club keeps me motivated as a runner. Our DCFR family has been important to both my wife and myself over the years and continues to be so.

Why and when did you start running?

I started running in high school.

Do you have a favorite memory or story from the DC Front Runners?

There are so many, it would be impossible to pick just one.

What is your favorite race?

My favorite race is the Cherry Blossom Ten Miler (I’ve done 25 so far)

What are your non-running activities and hobbies?

Traveling with my wife, outdoor activities, going to the theater and movies, spending time with our family and friends.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received with regards to running?

Just remember to have fun.

What big race or challenges are you planning for the next year with regards to running?

Nothing really new, just enjoying my favorite races.
