Meet Curtis Sakow

Why did you join the DC Front Runners?

I joined DC Front Runners to build community. I moved to DC after 31 years of only ever living in Florida, and I didn’t know anyone in the city. This group has introduced me to so many amazing people while enjoying one of my favorite hobbies!

Why is the DC Front Runners important to you?

DC Front Runners is important to me because I believe that our community should have dedicated spaces to enjoy our favorite hobbies that are safe and affirming. I love chatting and learning about folks in a space where we can just be our authentic selves.

Why and when did you start running?

I started running in late high school/early college but never on a team or in races. Running has always been a therapeutic outlet for me to process thoughts and life. It brings me clarity of mind.

What was your first race ever? And your favorite race?

My first race ever was the Scope It Out 5K in March 2023, and it was a great introduction to 5K’s. My favorite race is the Ragnar Trail Race in West Virginia. I’ve run it twice now with fellow Front Runners, and it’s always a great weekend!

What are your non-running activities and hobbies?

When I’m not running, I’m listening to music (Taylor Swift and emo, indie bands), playing Pokemon on my Switch, or out and about sharing laughs and stories with friends.

What big race or challenges are you planning for the next year with regards to running?

I’m working up to run the Chicago Marathon this Fall!
