Meet Rene T.

Why did you join the DC Front Runners? One sweltering summer Tuesday evening on board a crowded D2 bus, I noticed a gaggle of shirtless guys in front of the Shevchenko Memorial. I would soon find that it was the DC Front Runners on one of their Tuesday runs. After a little bit of Googling and mustering the courage to join a group without knowing anyone, I attended my first run. It was good to be in a no-pressure setting and I was looking forward to meeting other active LGBT+ individuals.

Why is the DC Front Runners important to you? There aren’t many LGBT organizations that allow you to balance both an active lifestyle and a healthy social life on your terms: the DC Front Runners being one of the few in the area. Although I have taken a considerable step back from racing, when I don the DCFR shirt for a race, I know a bunch of friends will be there to support me at the finish line: what an incredible feeling! And, on more than one occasion, I’ve traveled the world with DCFR friends and brought home some unforgettable stories. Just ask me about my post `5km shower at the 2018 Paris Gay Games!
