Why did you join the DC Front Runners?

I moved to DC from Atlanta last year. I ran with the Front Runners team in Atlanta and they told me about DCFR when they heard I was moving to the city. I tried out the group run on a Tuesday night and immediately loved the National Mall/Lincoln memorial route at night. Endurance sports, especially running, is therapeutic for me. It is always great to connect to others.

Why is the DC Front Runners important to you?

I joined DCFR two days after moving to DC last year, and I was very impressed by how DC board members made sure that newcomers were introduced at practice. I have made some meaningful connections and good friends through the group. I also really appreciate how the board pays attention to member’s feedback to ensure the group creates a safe and comfortable environment for the LGBTQ+ community, especially for the Black and POC community. DCFR also utilized the resources to organize virtual races to encourage members to keep up with their running practice during this uncertain time. I am eager to join the group run and see everyone again in the future.
