Why did you join the DC Front Runners?

I joined the Front Runners briefly in the late 90’s and then again in 2001 when I moved back to DC. I had never been much of an athlete growing up and the Front Runners was part of my gradual efforts to integrate fitness into my life. It was also a great way to meet other LGBT people outside of the bar scene, which I never had much luck with.

Why is the DC Front Runners important to you?

Work and family responsibilities mean I have very little time to socialize and Front Runners is one of the few places I have a group of friends. Plus it’s where I met my husband, Tom Boeke. Being in Front Runners motivated me to keep up with my fitness, be social when I feel like being introverted, and also helped me motivate to do other great fitness activities, including long distance bike rides and triathlons. I also want to let everyone who helps plan and organize Front Runner activities know how much I appreciate the time and effort you all invest in creating a great organization for all of us.
